New CRCE Module is Now Available!

We are pleased to announce a new CRCE learning module is now available.

Dr. Marty Keszler, from the Women's and Infants Medical Center in Providence, RI, offers a lecture titled "High Frequency Jet Ventilation: Optimizing Gas Exchange and Outome by Matching Ventilator Strategy to Disease Pathophysiology."

The objectives of the lecture are to identify the 6 categories of lung disease, understand the features of HFJV that may reduce the negative impact of mechanical ventilation, and recognize how to tailor your HFJV strategy to a baby's particular pathophysiology in order to optimize oxygenation and ventilation.

Dr. Keszler is a pioneer of high frequency ventilation and was the principle investigator in many of the pivotal studies that helped us to understand when and how to use HFJV. This lecture is very practical and should give you knowledge that you can apply immediately in your NICU.

A second lecture is also available on the CRCE webpage.

JanePillowProfessor Jane Pillow, from the Centre for Neonatal Research and Education in Perth, Western Australia, offers a lecture titled "It’s Hi-Time to understand I-time: Relevance to Mechanical Ventilation across the Frequency Spectrum."

The objectives of the lecture are to outline the relevance of time constants to tidal volume, and to offer a basic understanding of time constants, compliance, and resistance that will help individualize ventilation treatment across a broad range of frequencies.

Professor Pillow includes a discussion of the relevance of inspiratory time during HFJV. She sheds light on the clinical possibilities of longer I-times at lower HFJV rates for specific patients. We HIGHLY recommend Professor Pillow's lecture to anyone who manages babies on mechanical ventilators!

#5 Humidifier Temperature Settings

One of our Regional Clinical Specialists visited a NICU recently and observed a great deal of water pooling in the Jet circuit. He pressed the SET button in the humidifier panel and noticed that both the Circuit and Cartridge temperatures were set at 40 degrees . . .
